Why I built BiteLog

I built the food log I wanted to use.

Amie gives me a nutrition plan. For that plan to work, I need to record what I actually eat and tell her what happened during my week.

I tried the food logging apps. I found them slow, cluttered and disconnected from my real plan.

So I built BiteLog.

At the end of each week I review my update and email it to Amie.

The plan

Your dietitian should not have to change how they work.

The best dietitians already have their own way of writing plans. They should not have to learn a new system for you to get a better experience.

Give BiteLog the plan you already have as a PDF or photo. BiteLog turns it into calories, protein and useful instructions you can follow each day.

For dietitians

One weekly summary from your client.

Receive a consistent summary of meals, adherence and context without asking clients to rebuild their week from memory.

BiteLog works with the plans you already write. Your knowledge matters. BiteLog keeps the technology simple.

  • Same structure every week
  • Meals and nutrition against your plan
  • Your client's reflections for context
  • Arrives by email. No new portal to learn.

What it does

What BiteLog does today.

Log a meal from a photo

BiteLog estimates calories and protein, and shows its confidence and assumptions. You check it before you save.

Log a meal by voice

Say what you ate. If the recording cannot be understood, it is not saved.

  • Upload a dietitian plan as a PDF or photo.
  • Or log a meal manually.
  • Save calories, protein and the useful instructions from that plan.
  • See today's calories, protein and meals.
  • Review your food log and delete an entry.
  • Add a journal reflection by voice or text. Reflections do not change nutrition totals.
  • See seven days of progress against your saved plan.
  • Build one weekly update with meals, nutrition, plan context and reflections.
  • Send a weekly email update to your dietitian. BiteLog opens the reviewed update in your email app. It never sends email for you.

The best part

Log food without typing every ingredient.

Most food apps make you search for every item and enter it by hand. BiteLog lets you photograph your meal or say what you ate. It estimates the meal, shows you what it understood, and lets you review it before saving.

About estimates

Photo and voice estimates are estimates.

BiteLog labels them clearly. You check every estimate before it is saved.
